Real Performance Report

How it works

We do the hard part. You read one grade and one dollar figure.

Share a statement

Upload a recent statement (PDF) or connect your account with read-only access. We can never move money.

We add up every fee

Advisory fees, fund fees, sales charges and insurance or annuity charges, shown in plain dollars.

We build your “index twin”

A low-cost index portfolio with the same stock/bond mix, the same deposits and the same withdrawals, on the same dates.

You get your grade

One letter grade, one dollar figure, a trust check, and a few questions to ask your advisor.

What else we check

Fit, fair benchmarks and in-house funds

Fit vs. your profile

From your age, the people who depend on you, your comfort with risk and when you need the money, we build a reference mix for someone in your shoes, then show how far your account is from it. It's a yardstick, not a recommendation.

A twin that matches what you own

Your index twin uses low-cost index funds for each kind of investment you hold: U.S. and international stocks, bonds and cash, plus real estate, small and mid-size companies, inflation-protected and municipal bonds, high-yield bonds or gold if you own them.

In-house funds

If your account holds funds run by your advisor's own firm, we show how much, and how they did after fees compared with similar funds and a matching index fund. Then we give you questions to ask. We never tell you to sell anything.

Pilot members

How it works for pilot members

During the free pilot, we do everything by hand and nothing financial goes through this website.

Fill out a short profile

About 20 short, plain-English questions about your goals, when you'll need money, how comfortable you are with ups and downs, your age and who depends on you, and how often your advisor checks in (we expect a check-in every month). About 8 minutes.

Sign the consent

A one-page form that explains what we look at, how it's protected, and when it's deleted.

Share redacted statements privately

Black out account numbers and personal details, then hand them to us directly, in person or by a private, expiring link. Never through this site or its signup form.

Get your report card

Your grade and dollar figure, plus a simple color-coded Fit check showing how your account lines up with the goals you told us about and whether your advisor meets our monthly check-in standard, shown next to what they promised you, and how much of your account sits in your advisor's own firm's funds. Plus questions to ask your advisor. It works on your phone, too.

All pilot files, including your profile answers, are deleted by November 13, 2026, or sooner if you ask. The Fit check describes how your account lines up with what you told us. It is not a recommendation to buy or sell anything. Real Performance Report is not an investment adviser.

The grade scale

Your overall grade averages two pillars: fit to your goals and value for fees. The scale below is for value for fees: your results after all fees compared with a blended index twin over the same period. Trust and check-ins can add a minus sign. The kind of firm you use is never scored.

GradeWhat it means
AClearly beat a simple index portfolio after fees
BBeat it
CAbout even: the fee was roughly earned
DTrailed it: you paid more than you got
FTrailed it by a lot

Exact thresholds will be published with our methodology before launch. With less than 3 years of history we show a fee-only view instead of a grade.

Credit where it's due

Good advisors can add value beyond picking funds: tax planning, Roth conversions, Social Security timing, and keeping you invested when markets fall. When you can show it with records, we give credit for it. We don't just assume it.

The trust check

We look up public records from the SEC's Investment Adviser Public Disclosure, FINRA BrokerCheck and the CFP Board. We check disciplinary history, how the advisor is paid, and whether fees are clearly disclosed. You see Clean, Caution or Warning, with one line explaining why.

Public advisor profiles

Verified reviews, kept honest

Every advisor gets a free public profile with three separate parts: our measured grade, the public-records trust check, and star ratings and reviews written by verified clients.

Proof, not just a login

To post a review you show a statement with the advisor or firm on it. We keep a “verified client since” record, not your statement. Only verified reviews count toward the stars.

Everyone gets asked

Every report card customer is invited to review, whatever grade their advisor got. We never pay or reward anyone for a review, positive or negative.

Negative stays up

We remove reviews only if they break our published guidelines: no real client relationship, conflicts of interest, personal information, harassment, or clearly false facts. Never for being critical.

Advisors reply for free

Advisors can claim their profile, add a bio and fee schedule, reply publicly and flag reviews for review under the same rules. They can't pay, hide, reorder or remove reviews.

We screen for fake and coordinated reviews, and may pause new reviews on a profile during unusual activity. Reviews are clients' opinions, not our findings.

What you'll always get

  • Plain English, no jargon on the front page
  • A confidence label (low, medium or high) based on how much data we had
  • Neutral questions to bring to your advisor
  • The full detail and method, one tap away

What we'll never do

  • Tell you to buy or sell an investment
  • Tell you to fire your advisor
  • Sell you a product, or refer you to an advisor for a fee
  • Sell your personal data
